German Police Arrest Armed Suspect Near CDU Party Headquarters
The man, reportedly carrying a knife or sword, was spotted by passersby heading toward the CDU offices in Berlin’s Mitte district on Monday evening.
At the same time, he contacted emergency services, indicating his intention to commit suicide and mentioning explosives in his jacket.
Police secured a wide perimeter around the area and attempted to persuade the man to surrender with the help of specially trained negotiators. Ultimately, special police units managed to subdue him at the entrance to the CDU headquarters.
The individual is said to be around 40 years old and speaks German. No additional details regarding his identity or the weapons involved have been released.
