Survey Shows German Concern Over US Role in Global Peace

(MENAFN) A recent survey indicates that German perceptions of the United States have shifted sharply, with nearly two-thirds now considering Washington a potential threat to global peace.

The poll, conducted by the Allensbach Institute in January for the Center for Strategy and Higher Leadership, found that 65% of respondents named the US among nations posing the greatest danger to world stability.

The results highlight a steep decline in Germany’s view of the US since Donald Trump began his second term in January 2025. In 2024, only 24% of Germans saw the US as a threat, a figure that rose to 46% in 2025 and has now reached 65%.

The survey also revealed growing skepticism about American commitments to NATO. Only around one-third (32%) of respondents believed the US would provide military support if Europe were attacked, while 35% doubted such intervention, and 33% were undecided.

Despite concerns about Washington, Germany still sees Russia as the primary threat to global security, with roughly 81% of respondents labeling it dangerous. China ranked third, with 46% viewing it as a threat to peace and stability.

The representative survey interviewed approximately 1,100 Germans between January 6 and January 19.
